Gynaikothrips ficorum

Forms leaf-fold galls exclusively on F. microcarpa. it can cause severe damage (die back and mortality of hedges) if no control measures are taken but the numbers of thrips can be easily suppressed with regular pruning. a related species is likely to be also present on Montserrat, gynaikothips uzeli, which forms identical-looking galls on weeping fig F. benjamina.
