A soft scale. Yellow Hall, DMCA, on guava; Lookout, Farm, on Carica papaya. A Neotropical species that has been spreading rapidly in the Caribbean region in recent years; polyphagous, feeding on plants belonging to 26 families, including many crop and ornamental plants. A major pest of croton and other ornamentals. Teneral adult females are green and can be easily confused with Phalacrococcus howertoni, especially when found on Codiaeum variegatum. The presence of a large, elongate ovisac and anterior wax ribbon on mature female P. tuberculosa easily separate this species from P. howertoni in the field. Coccus viridis adult females are also green but are much smaller than adult female P. howertoni and P. tuberculosa, and their intestines are usually visible as a dark line, which is not observed in the latter two species.
