Native to southern-temperate Euro Siberia (northern limit is S. Sweden). It is widely naturalised outside this range. Likely to move out of Gnaphalium but generic circumscription is uncertain (and The Plant List (2010) is currently inaccurate), so it's not yet clear what genus it will end up in. Suggest keeping in Gnaphalium until this has been resolved. (Upson R. & Lewis R. (2014). Updated atlas and checklist. Report to Falklands Conservation. 225 pp.);
