Domestic Cattle Form An Important Part Of The Agricultural Industry So Would Obviously Not Be Considered For Control. However Unmanaged Cattle Herds Should Be Controlled Where Possible To Prevent Unnecessary Damage To Vegetation, And Herds Should Be Prevented From Having Access To Sensitive Areas. There Are Reports That Unmanaged Herds Occur On Wickham Heights, East Falkland (Soe, 2007). (Whitehead, J. (2008) Priorities for Control: A Risk Assessment of Introduced Species on the Falkland Islands. South Atlantic Invasive Species Project );

Cattle had already caused changes in the composition of native vegetation, especially the loss of tussac grass and fachine from many areas by 1842 (R. Woods, pers. comm.). They may have also played a role in the extinction of some plant species (Varnham, 2005). Elsewhere in the world, feral cattle are known to severely modify native vegetation by browsing, crushing and trampling (GISD, 2008). (Whitehead, J.
