Invasive. (Whitehead, J. (2008) Priorities for Control: A Risk Assessment of Introduced Species on the Falkland Islands. South Atlantic Invasive Species Project ; Falkland Islands Government (Unknown) Biosecurity & Invasives Strategy 2017-2020. Falkland Islands Government.); Biological impacts: They cause adverse impacts on seabird and songbird populations and possible impacts on vegetation (C. Miller, 2007). Rats may be partly responsible for the absence of Diving Petrels, Storm Petrels and other small breeding birds such as Cobbs Wren from New Island. Although there is no evidence that they occurred on the island prior to rats (Strange, 2007), Cobbs wrens are known to breed on offshore islands of Coffin, Saddle, and Beef (Sanders, 2006).
