It is particularly noticeable in and around the gardens of the South District, but is also found in other areas, such as the sand slopes on the east side of the Rock (Cortes & Abrines 1994). Within the Upper Rock Nature Reserve, Ailanthus altissima occurs in the PSA nursery. This species also occurs in a part of the Mount garden that lies just outside of the Nature Reserve.
