Native to North America, Europe, Bonin Island, Hawaii. (St Helena Invertebrate Forum (2024) St Helena Species Spreadsheet v12.5. Dataset.); The Ashmole's S. spirifex specimens are probably this species and the specimens in the SHNT collection are definitely of this species.
