Chris Malumphy found Huge populations of V. amaryllidis present on Amaryllidaceae in the Castle Gardens, 1.xi.2018. The infested plants appear to be the giant crinum lily Crinum asiaticum (Fig. 2). Several of the infested plants were showing necrosis of the foliage and mortality. This is likely to be due to a combination of abiotic factors (for example, water stress) and the mealybug infestation.
